HISTORY

2009

On March 13th, 2009, the Canadian International School (CIS) was officially established as the first and only international school in Vietnam to offer a Canadian curriculum. The school’s founders chose the Ontario Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 Curriculum for its emphasis on character education.
The 2009-2010 school year began at the temporary campus on the ground floor of the Panorama Condominium in Phu My Hung with 165 students.
The CIS journey was launched with the cooperation of the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN). DSBN provided advice about pedagogy and curriculum as well as solutions for managing schools according to Ontario public schools in Niagara. DSBN supported CIS to recruit Ontario certified teachers, to recommend learning resources and to provide professional learning opportunities. DSBN also conducted annual inspections of the CIS program as part of a commitment to continuous improvement. Students were given the choice to finish Grade 12 at CIS in Vietnam or at an Ontario secondary school.

2010

On September 18, 2010, Khoi Nguyen Education Holdings (KNE) hosted the Grand Opening Ceremony of the newly constructed CIS campus in the Residential Quarter 13C, Phong Phu Commune, Binh Chanh District, HCMC.
In addition, in  2010, the Canada - Vietnam Kindergarten (CVK) was established with the first 30 students. The school was located at the temporary Panorama Campus, Phu My Hung. CVK offers the Vietnamese MoET curriculum coupled with an English program modelled on Ontario kindergarten programs.

With an investment of around 272 billion VND, the investment to BCIS is around 140 million VND per student, almost three times the prescribed level of 50 million VND per student for educational institutions with foreign capital investment, according to Decree 73/2012/ND-CP at the time.
BCIS bases its grade 1 to 12 on curriculum of Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training, combined with the ESL program (English as a second language) according to standards by Ontario Ministry of Education, from elementary to high school levels. In particular, the 4-year program, from grade 9 to grade 12, is integrated with the Home Economics program (developing management skills related to family needs) and project study (developing research skills and practical applications).

Also in 2012, CVK Kindergarten was also moved to BCIS campus.

The CVK's new campus at District 7 is a 9,847m² structure with a total investment of around 295 billion VND. CVK is a childhood home of many preschool generations from different parts of the world, aging from 18-month-old toddlers to 5-year-old children. During CVK's nine years of operation, starting from a small campus to having its own vast and spacious garden, one thing stays unchanged: CVK is the place for children to embrace, love and laugh.
